Erica stared down at the paper floating in front of her face. Her pencil was held tightly in her hand and her eyebrows were pulled together. She could feel a migraine coming on and she massaged her temples against it, hoping to keep it at bay. She had been getting frequent migraines for the past few weeks and quite frankly, she was tired of it.
"Screw this." She mumbled, dropping her pencil on the blank lined paper and shoving away from her desk. She'd do the essay later. It wasn't due for another three days, so it could wait.
"Er? Can I take the car?" Her twin, Andy, stood at her bedroom door, combing through his shoulder length, black hair. Erica's eyes wandered away from him as she felt the pain in her head intensify. "I'm taking Amy out. She finally said yes, and I don't want mom to take us to the theater. How stupid." He scoffed, throwing the comb behind him into his room, which sat across the hall from Erica's.
"Uh, yeah here." she tossed the keys at him, pressing her fingers harshly into her skull for some sort of relief.
"You okay?" Andy stepped into her room, laying the back of his hand across her forehead. "You feel a little warm, maybe you should get some sleep." He advised, frowning down at her in sympathy.
"You're probably right, but I've got way too much to do." She replied, slapping his hand away and standing up. Her vision swam and she swayed for a few seconds precariously before finally finding her balance. "Anyway, go pick Amy up. Wouldn't want to be late now, would you?" She teased, lightly bumping his shoulder as she stepped past him into the bathroom to look for some Advil.
"Yeah yeah. I'll probably be home around ten or so. Don't wait up for me." He replied with a light smile as he walked up the stairs.
"Like I would." Erica replied, smiling against the pain in her head. Andy stopped about halfway up the stairs and turned around to look Erica in the eye.
"And Er, get some sleep. These migraines are going to kill you, especially if you don't do anything about them. I'd rather not attend my twin's funeral any time soon." He teased, turning around and bounding up the stairs, his lanky form rushing out the door with the car keys dangling from his hands. Erica shook her head, smiling, and followed him out with the empty bottle that had previously held Advil. She walked up to the recycling bin on the far side of their house and dropped it in before making her way back to the front door. Suddenly, a shining object in the middle of the road caught her eye. She took a few tedious steps towards it, kneeling down to examine the small mirror.
She wasn't really sure what happened after that. Pain lanced through her body and she felt her head jolt at unnatural angles before her vision went black. Did I just get hit by a car?
